If things are feeling tough in your business, thanks to the heady cocktail that is current political & economic times + the typical summer quiet period/ school holiday juggle, + tightening of belts (plus an Instagram identity crisis!). First up, I hear you, and you are 💯 not alone.

Secondly, try not to panic, take positive action, stay focussed on the things that will make an impact (avoid the doom scroll!) and instead focus on the things you CAN control.

Here are five steps to ensure you come out the other side.

📑 Go back to your business strategy - is it still fit for purpose, or do you need to refocus? Revisit your goals and break them down into bite-size, manageable steps.

💷 Tackle finances head-on - don’t bury your head in the sand. Update your financial forecasts, review your operating costs and ensure your pricing increases with inflation so that your margins are protected. Do not discount in a panic.

This leads me to...

🛒 Diversify your revenue streams - What services can you offer your audience to suit different budgets? Think template bundles, webinars, DIY/DWY options, and any high-ticket offers. PSA: Please see the post from @vixmeldrew today on 💄 offers.

📈 Look at your marketing stats - what do your social insights and google analytics tell you? Are you devoting time to the places that get you the best results?

⚖️ Protect your boundaries, maintain self-care and CEO time - now is not the time to burn out. Reach out to business friends, and family and talk things through. You don’t have to muddle through this alone.

Make sure you harness all of the nuggets of gold & big ideas, and pull everything together into a proper business strategy & plan.

Your big exciting plans will only come to life if you turn your strategy into an actionable plan and your plans into measurable projects & actions.

Check in on your strategy weekly and ask yourself these questions:

- What am I focussing on this week to move the needle?

- Are my team clear on their objectives for the week and how their work fits into our overall business strategy?

- Are we on or off track with our strategy & plans for this quarter? Am I being realistic about what I want to achieve?

- Am I delegating effectively so that I'm not a bottleneck in my own business or burning myself out?

- What wins can we celebrate from last week? Who do I need to recognise or thank for being amazing?

❓Confession time - are you good at checking in on your goals/plans and the progress you're making? Or do you plan and hope for the best?

Running a business on your own can feel lonely at times, even if you have a remote team. The buck stops with you, which, if you have spent any time as an employee with a boss before, is a big mindset shift. There's no manual for running a business, so it can also feel like a lot of pressure.

BUT, you are not alone! I promise you! Here are my top tips to help you stay connected and supported.

➤ Find your tribe - online or IRL seek out groups of like-minded people. It could be on a social platform, via memberships or free networking groups.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➤ Find a sounding board - this could be a coach or mentor, a business buddy or even a team member.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➤ Find a way to co-work - get out of your home office. Work from a cafe, find a co-working space or set up a zoom co-working session with your business buddies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➤ Find time for downtime - even when times are hard, resist the urge to work 24/7. Stay connected with friends & family. Do the things you love. Don't let yourself burn out.

➤ Find a team - no matter your budget, growing a team is essential to success and maintaining a healthy balance. From a few hours of VA support a month to a full-scale team. As the saying goes. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

Running a business sure is a rollercoaster huh!

We all need to make space for reflection, and thinking time -and sometimes that means asking ourselves difficult questions.

I've had lots of conversations with clients and business buddies recently about how the post-pandemic landscape with rising costs (both at a business & personal level) is impacting them. For some that means making some big pivots in their business, for others, it means raising prices or offering new services at a lower price point that may mean they can help more people.

Whatever you need to do. Make sure you take a step back and think about your options. Make sure they still fit with your overall vision and don't let fear get in your way. Big changes can be broken down into small steps. Bring your team along with you. Ask your clients & audience what they need and how you can help. All the answers you need are there.
